There are over 130 hair replacement services in NSW, and the quality gap between the best and the worst is enormous. A poorly fitted system looks like exactly what men fear - an obvious hairpiece - while an expertly crafted one is undetectable. Before you commit to any provider (including us), ask these seven questions.
1. Do you wear a system yourself?
This is the single most revealing question. A consultant who wears a hair system can answer from lived experience: how it feels in summer, what the maintenance routine is really like, what to say at the barber. At The Hair Crew, our team are also our clients - it's the foundation of how we consult.
2. Can I see and touch real systems at the consultation?
Photos can be curated. Insist on handling tactile samples - feel the base materials, inspect the hairline knots up close, see the difference between base types with your own eyes.
3. Is the system custom-made from a template of my head?
Stock systems can be adequate, but a truly undetectable result needs a custom template: the exact contour of your head, your precise area of loss, your hair's colour, texture, density and growth direction. Ask how the template is made and how long the custom process takes.
4. What happens if I'm not happy?
A confident provider stands behind their work. Ask directly: if the result doesn't meet expectations, will you refine it? Our promise is simple - we refine the design until it aligns with your vision, or we adjust costs. Your satisfaction drives us.
5. What are ALL the costs?
Get the complete picture upfront: the system itself, fitting, maintenance visits, replacement schedule and any products. Reputable providers give you financial transparency at the first consultation. Walk away from anyone who is vague about ongoing costs.
6. Is the consultation private and pressure-free?
You should never feel like you're in a sales funnel. Look for one-on-one private consultations, honest answers to hard questions, and explicit space to go away and think. If you feel pressured to sign on the day, that tells you everything.
7. Can I speak to real clients?
Ask to read or hear real client experiences - ideally in their own unedited words. Our success stories are published exactly as clients told them, spelling mistakes and all, because authenticity matters more than polish.
